How to Make Kraft Mac and Cheese in the Microwave
If you’re craving a quick and easy meal, Kraft Mac and Cheese is always a great option. I personally prefer the original boxed version over Kraft’s Easy Mac (which is specifically designed for the microwave). And I don’t always have time to bother with boiling water on the stove.
Here’s how I microwave Kraft mac and cheese!
What You’ll Need:
- 2-quart microwave-safe bowl
- 1 1/3 Cup water
- 2 Tablespoons butter
- 1/4 Cup Milk
- Boxed Kraft Macaroni and Cheese
Step One: Preheat Water
In a microwave-safe bowl (at least 2 quarts) microwave 1 1/3 cups water until hot. Usually no more than 2 minutes.
Step Two: Add Macaroni
Pour the macaroni noodles from the box into the hot water and stir.
Step Three: Microwave on High
Microwave on High for 5 minutes in one-minute intervals, stirring in between. It’s very important to stir the macaroni so it doesn’t stick together.
Step Four: Drain
Once the macaroni has been cooked, drain any excess water.
Step Five: Add in Additional Ingredients
Pour the macaroni back into the bowl while mixing in the milk, butter and cheese.
Step Six: Microwave An Extra 20 Seconds
After stirring in the rest of the ingredients, you may need an extra 20 seconds to heat up the mac and cheese so the butter melts and the milk is warm.
Step Seven: Serve and Enjoy!
You should now have a bowl of Kraft Mac and Cheese that tastes just like it came off the stove!
Original Blue Box Kraft Mac and Cheese Versus Kraft Easy Mac
For the longest time I thought the reason Kraft came out with an Easy Mac version was because the noodles were specifically designed for cooking in the microwave. But that’s just not the case. You can prepare each version of Kraft Mac and Cheese the same way. Let’s take a look at what make them different though.
Packaging
Kraft Easy Mac comes with a single size cup that you can easily fill with water and place in the microwave. The original blue box does not.
Ingredients
The original blue box has you add milk and butter along with the cheese mix. This gives it the creamy taste and texture we all love. Kraft only suggests water in Easy Mac, and allows for excess water to mix in the cheese.
Those are really the only two notable differences I could find between the Original Blue Box and Kraft Easy Mac! So, there is really no reason why you can’t microwave your mac and cheese to get those same great results!
How Do You Make Kraft Mac and Cheese Better in the Microwave?
Alot of people just assume that they’ll never be able to make Kraft mac and cheese taste as well as it does making it on the stove, but this couldn’t be further from the truth! The problem is the instructions for Easy Mac only ask you to add water and mix in the cheese.
If you want to make your Kraft mac and cheese better in the microwave, simply add milk and butter when you stir in the cheese mix. It’ll add to the creamy texture and taste.
